New Star Trek Psychological Thriller Announced for Consoles and PC
Paramount Games Studio and Bloober Team have officially revealed Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a science-fiction action-adventure that blends psychological thriller elements with the long-running Star Trek universe.
The title is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
According to Paramount Games Studio Senior Vice President and Head of Creative and Production Shawn Kittelsen, the company selected Bloober Team because of its reputation for creating immersive and atmospheric experiences, believing the studio was well suited to both respect Star Trek’s legacy and introduce new ideas to the franchise.
Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno stated that the project represents a combination of the studio’s passion for science fiction and its expertise in horror-themed storytelling.
Babieno explained that Star Trek has been an important influence on the development team and that the collaboration with Paramount allowed them to create a darker adventure while remaining connected to the spirit of the franchise.
The game places players in the role of former Starfleet Lieutenant Ro Laren, once again voiced by Michelle Forbes.
The story follows Ro as she embarks on a dangerous mission to save an old friend while confronting personal struggles and unresolved issues from her past.
Events begin after Ro crash-lands on a remote and previously unexplored planet that has fallen under the influence of a mysterious consciousness.
Although the world initially appears beautiful and awe-inspiring, it quickly reveals itself to be an extremely dangerous environment filled with hidden threats.
Driven by a sense of duty and determination, Ro investigates the planet and uncovers increasingly disturbing secrets that draw her deeper into a corrupted and disorienting reality.
As she continues her journey, her memories become distorted and her grip on reality is challenged by the strange forces affecting the planet.
The narrative centers on uncovering the truth behind the world while confronting personal demons that have haunted Ro for years.
A powerful planetary intelligence has spread across the landscape and actively manipulates its surroundings as a weapon against intruders.
Creatures born from this hostile environment patrol the terrain and can attack without warning, forcing players into tense confrontations or desperate attempts to evade danger.
Each encounter requires careful judgment, as players must decide whether direct combat or strategic avoidance offers the best chance of survival.
The planet itself poses a continual threat by attempting to infiltrate Ro’s mind and overwhelm her consciousness with disturbing visions and psychological torment.
Environmental dangers and obstacles are scattered throughout the world, turning exploration into both a necessity and a significant risk.
To survive, players will have access to familiar Star Trek technology, including a Tricorder that can scan and analyze objects within the environment.
Ro will also rely on a Phaser that serves multiple purposes, including defending against hostile creatures and assisting with puzzle-solving sequences.
The gameplay combines exploration, investigation, combat, environmental puzzles, and cinematic story moments into a single narrative-focused experience.
Developers describe the project as a more mature interpretation of Star Trek that still embraces the franchise’s traditional themes of curiosity, courage, and discovery.
The game challenges players to venture beyond known space while confronting psychological horrors that blur the line between reality and illusion.

An announcement teaser trailer has already been released to provide fans with an early glimpse of the project.
Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, although pricing has not yet been announced.
