New official Godzilla sake created by 150-year-old Japanese brewery

A new collaboration sake has been announced to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic “King of the Monsters,” Godzilla.
“Godzilla: Traces of the Fierce Battle Junmai Daiginjo” has been created by Maruhiko Brewing, a historic brewery from Yokkaichi City in Mie Prefecture with a history of brewing sake for over 150 years.

The brewery, which has won consecutive gold medals at the Annual Japan Sake Awards since 2006, stated it has created a “soul-shaking sake” meant to evoke the powerful image of Godzilla.

Godzilla, the iconic monster, first appeared in the 1954 Toho film and has since become a global cultural phenomenon, spawning decades of films.

This new Junmai Daiginjo is described as the “highest grade” sake, worthy of Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, and possessing a “monster-class” taste.

The sake is made using 100% Mie Prefecture Yamada Nishiki rice, which is polished to 50%. It has a gorgeous, fruity aroma and a clean, easy-to-drink, yet rich flavor.

This sake is the latest in a series of major announcements for the Godzilla franchise.

It was recently revealed at “Godzilla Fes 2025” that a sequel to the Academy Award-winning film Godzilla-1.0 is in production, titled ‘Godzilla-0.0’ (Godzilla Minus Zero).

Takashi Yamazaki is set to return to write, direct, and handle visual effects for the new film.

The “Godzilla: Traces of the Fierce Battle Junmai Daiginjo” is priced at 5,000 yen (approx. $32.48 USD / £24.68 GBP) before tax for a 720ml bottle, with an alcohol content of 14%.

It is available to order now via the official Maruhiko Brewing online shop, with shipping scheduled to take three to four weeks.

The brewery also notes that sales are prohibited for resale or auction purposes.
