New Jet Set Radio 25th anniversary merch line includes actual skates

Jet Set Radio is 25 years old and to commemorate the anniversary of Sega’s cult classic action rollerblading game, California-based skate company “ThemSkates” and SEGA have announced an exciting new merchandise collaboration.
The “ThemSkates x SEGA” collection includes apparel, accessories, and a pair of Jet Set Radio-branded inline skates.

Jet Set Radio was originally released on the Dreamcast console in Japan on June 29th 2000.
It was later released in North America on October 24th, 2000, under the name Jet Grind Radio, while the European release on November 24th reverted to the original name.

It quickly gained a passionate following for its distinctive cel-shaded art style, vibrant Tokyo-inspired urban environments and groundbreaking soundtrack.

The game pioneered a unique blend of roller-skating, graffiti artistry and exploration which cementing its place as one of the most recognizable games in SEGA’s history.

Its enduring appeal lies not just in its innovative gameplay but also in its strong aesthetic and unforgettable characters, making it a prime candidate for celebratory merchandise.

The “ThemSkates x SEGA” collection pays homage to this quarter-century milestone with a range of items designed to appeal to both long-time fans of the game and roller-skating enthusiasts.

The collection includes T-shirts, hats, and sticker packs. These items prominently feature the Jet Set Radio logo alongside the game’s original iconic iconography, such as the distinctive font and other graphical elements used throughout the game.

The centerpiece of the collection is a pair of custom-designed inline skates:

These skates are a striking lime green, matching the same color used frequently throughout the game and in much of the artwork based on the series.
The game’s logo is featured on the heel, while the wheels and the underside of the boot are adorned with artwork depicting fan-favorite characters.

Among those highlighted are the flamboyant radio DJ and narrator Professor K, the cool and enigmatic Gum, and the iconic Beat.
From a technical perspective, the skates will utilize ThemSkates’ all-new 901 shell and their new antirocker frame.

The antirocker setup, commonly favored in aggressive inline skating, positions smaller, harder wheels in the middle of the frame to facilitate grinding and tricks on obstacles, matching the action-oriented spirit of Jet Set Radio.
