New Hand-Animated Cuphead Title and 8-Bit Mighty Cuphead Adventure Announced

Studio MDHR officially announced two new projects in the Cuphead universe on June 5, 2026, during the Summer Game Fest.

The first project is a brand-new, hand-animated Cuphead video game that is currently in the early stages of development.

While details remain limited, the studio confirmed this ambitious title will feature the well-known characters in an entirely fresh adventure.

In a surprise reveal, a smaller team within the studio also unveiled Mighty Cuphead Adventure, an 8-bit action platformer.

This retro-style game is built using authentic technology from the 1980s, including being programmed in classic Assembly Language.

Mighty Cuphead Adventure is specifically designed to meet the technical specifications of the Sega Master System home console.

The title will be released on modern consoles and PC, but it will also be available as a physical cartridge for the original Sega Master System hardware.

Co-founder Chad Moldenhauer emphasized that these projects represent the studio’s commitment to craftsmanship and traditional animation techniques.

Development for the 8-bit title involved collaborations with Toronto’s Stop Motion Department and Continue Agency to capture a specific historical aesthetic.

Studio MDHR plans to provide more updates and gameplay footage for both titles in the coming months of 2026.
