New ‘Famichiki Rice Ball’ released as part of FamilyMart’s ‘Famichiki Festival 2025’
FamilyMart’s ‘Famichiki Festival’ is returning for 2025 and will see the launch of a new take on last year’s popular ‘Famichiki Rice Ball’.
The ‘Cheese In Famichiki’ launched earlier this year and now it will be transforming into a rice ball as the latest addition to FamilyMart’s ‘Famichiki’ range.
The ‘Famichiki Rice Ball’ is an innovative product takes FamilyMart’s immensely popular No.1 seller, Famichiki, which surpassed 2.3 billion units sold in December 2024 and is a frequent subject of creative fan-made recipes on social media, and reimagines it in a convenient onigiri (rice ball) format.
The ‘Famichiki Festival’ was first held in May 2024 and saw the introduction of the original Famichiki Sandwich Onigiri.
FamilyMart is now elevating the experience with the addition of their popular “Cheese-In Famichiki” flavor.
The ‘Cheese-In Famichiki Sandwich Onigiri’ features a specially prepared, half-cut ‘Cheese-In Famichiki’ nestled between layers of rice and seaweed.
To complement the savory chicken and melted cheese, a zesty pepper mayonnaise is added, creating a satisfying and flavorful onigiri with a substantial volume.
For an extra layer of deliciousness, warming the onigiri is recommended to allow the cheese to melt further and meld with the rich flavor of the Famichiki.
FamilyMart highlighted the challenge of incorporating the melted cheese into the onigiri format when the Famichiki is halved.
After numerous trials, they emphasized that the ‘cheese-in’ version provided the best flavor and integration.
Careful selection of cheese suitable for onigiri and adjustments to the frying temperature and process were crucial in creating the perfect ‘Cheese-In Famichiki’ for this new product.
FamilyMart strongly recommends warming the onigiri to fully appreciate the softened cheese and its harmonious blend with the savory Famichiki.
The ‘Cheese-In Famichiki Sandwich Onigiri’ will be available at FamilyMart stores across Japan from the 13th of May 2025, priced at 378 yen (including tax).
In addition to the new onigiri, FamilyMart is also launching a special discount campaign from Tuesday, May 13th to Monday, May 26th, 2025.
Customers who purchase one “Famichiki Buns (Tartar Sauce)” together with any one fried item or prepared food from the register-side display case will receive a ¥50 discount at the time of purchase
This discount is intended to encourage customers to experiment with sandwiching various fried items in the popular Famichiki Buns.
