My Melody, Kuromi and Hello Kitty Get a Gyaru Makeover for Sanrio’s Latest Merch Collection
Sanrio is embracing the return of Heisei-era fashion with a brand-new “Gal Collection” that sees My Melody, Kuromi and Hello Kitty come together in a colorful merchandise lineup inspired by one of Japan’s most iconic fashion trends.
Sanrio has remained one of Japan’s most recognizable character brands for decades, with fan favorites like My Melody, Kuromi and Hello Kitty continuing to inspire new collaborations and merchandise collections enjoyed around the world.
The new “Gal Collection” blends the characters with classic gyaru fashion motifs, including loose socks, flip phones and vibrant accessories that capture the unmistakable style of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Leading the collection are new Style-Up Mascots that give the characters a fashionable makeover with eye-catching gyaru-inspired outfits and accessories.
The My Melody and Kuromi Style-Up Mascots, priced at ¥3,080 each (approx. $21 USD / £15 GBP), will be available across four different designs.
The Hello Kitty Style-Up Mascots, priced at ¥2,640 each (approx. $18 USD / £13 GBP), will be available in two different versions.
Matching Plush Multi Clips, priced at ¥2,200 each (approx. $15 USD / £11 GBP), allow fans to attach the characters to bags, clothing or accessories.
Collectors can also look forward to Trading Mini Mirrors, priced at ¥660 each (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP), featuring six randomly distributed designs.
The retro-inspired collection continues with Sticker Binders, priced at ¥1,738 each (approx. $12 USD / £9 GBP), designed to store and display sticker collections in true Heisei fashion.
Mini Photo Album Keychains, priced at ¥770 each (approx. $5 USD / £4 GBP), will be available in three character designs.
Vinyl Flip Phone Pouches, priced at ¥1,628 each (approx. $11 USD / £8 GBP), recreate the nostalgic appearance of classic Japanese feature phones while offering practical everyday storage.
Slide Flip Phone Keychains, priced at ¥1,100 each (approx. $8 USD / £5 GBP), continue the retro theme with miniature phone-inspired accessories available in three designs.
Tile Sticker Style Mirrors, priced at ¥1,100 each (approx. $8 USD / £5 GBP), also arrive in three character variations inspired by nostalgic sticker designs.
Sticker Sheets, priced at ¥770 each (approx. $5 USD / £4 GBP), will be available in two different versions.
Pukurin Candy Stickers, priced at ¥660 each (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP), Shaka Shaka Stickers, priced at ¥660 each (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP), Crystal Stickers, priced at ¥660 each (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP), and Dress-Up Stickers, priced at ¥660 each (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP), all expand the stationery lineup with two designs available for each series.
Trading Retro Flip Phone Keychains Vol. 2, priced at ¥792 each (approx. $5 USD / £4 GBP), feature six randomly packed nostalgic phone designs that cannot be selected individually.
The final wave introduces Trading Mascot Charm Straps, priced at ¥990 each (approx. $7 USD / £5 GBP), featuring eight possible designs including two secret variants, alongside Phone Straps, priced at ¥2,750 each (approx. $19 USD / £14 GBP), in three different styles.
The Sanrio “Gal Collection” will be released in stages starting from July 24, 2026.
The collection will be exclusively available at 24 participating Kiddy Land store locations across Japan, including outlets in Harajuku, Shinjuku, Kichijoji, Osaka Umeda, Shinsaibashi PARCO, Nagoya PARCO, Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi, Fukuoka PARCO, Hiroshima PARCO, and other selected branches nationwide.
