MegaHouse unveils new “Char’s Counterattack” Char Aznable statue
MegaHouse has produced a new sculpted statue of the iconic Char Aznable, based on his appearance in the movie ‘Char’s Counterattack’.
Given Char’s enduring popularity within the Gundam franchise, this ‘GGG’ series figure is expected to be a highly sought-after item for dedicated fans and collectors of high-end Gundam memorabilia.
Char’s prevalence is such that he’s still a focus in the most recent Gundam series, ‘Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’, and merchandise is constantly released based on mobile suits associated with him, such as the Red Gundam and his red Zaku II.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, released in 1988, is a pivotal animated film in the Universal Century timeline of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise.
It serves as the climactic final confrontation between the long-standing rivals, Amuro Ray and Char Aznable.
Char, a charismatic and complex character, has been a central figure since the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, evolving from a masked ace pilot to a formidable leader.
His journey and philosophical clashes with Amuro define a significant portion of the Gundam saga, culminating in their ultimate showdown in Char’s Counterattack.
The “GGG (Gundam Guys Generation)” series by MegaHouse focuses on bringing male characters from the Gundam universe to life as high-quality, pre-painted collectible figures.
Known for their meticulous sculpting and attention to detail, GGG figures aim to capture the essence and personality of the characters they portray.
This latest addition to the GGG line specifically aims to embody Char’s intense resolve and readiness for his final battle with Amuro Ray.
Standing at an impressive approximately 22cm (nearly 9”) in height, the “Commander-in-Chief Char Aznable” figure was sculpted based on a completely new 3D model, ensuring a fresh and detailed representation.
The sculpting is designed to convey his brave and determined demeanor as he prepares for the decisive conflict.
The figure also comes with a dedicated stand (design TBC), allowing it to be displayed as the centrepiece of a collection.
Priced at 25,300 yen (tax included), this premium collectible will be available for pre-order through Premium Bandai, Bandai’s official online store for exclusive and limited-edition merchandise.
While Premium Bandai serves as the primary pre-order channel, MegaHouse has also indicated that the figure will be available at hobby shops and online stores nationwide, offering broader access for collectors across Japan.
Based on previous GGG statues released international, this statues availability will be dependent on MegaHouse’s international distribution partners who will offer stock to local hobby retailers.
Premium Bandai will start pre-orders for the “GGG Series Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack Commander-in-Chief Char Aznable” on June 5th, at 10:00 AM JST.
Pre-orders placed via Premium Bandai are set to ship in November 2025.
