Masahiro Sakurai shares new Kirby Air Riders update

The acclaimed game director Masahiro Sakurai has shared an update regarding the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title Kirby Air Riders.
Sakurai made the statement as part of a message celebrating the 20th anniversary of his game development company, Sora Ltd.

Sora Ltd. was founded by Sakurai in 2005 after he left HAL Laboratory, and is best known for its work on the Super Smash Bros. series.

In his post, after thanking fans for their support over the past two decades, he provided a brief update on his current project.
“We haven’t even been able to show a game screen yet, but I think we will be able to release information in the near future,” Sakurai stated.

Kirby Air Riders is the first full sequel to the 2003 Nintendo GameCube racing game, Kirby Air Ride.
The original game is a cult classic, beloved by fans for its simple, one-button control scheme and its chaotic and creative “City Trial” game mode.

A sequel has been highly requested by fans for over two decades.
The new title was officially announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation in April of this year, but no further details have been revealed since then.
Sakurai’s new message is the first confirmation that more news is on the horizon, though what form that will take has not yet been specified.

Kirby Air Riders is currently in development and is scheduled to be released for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025.
