LEGO to release working gachapon machine as new “LEGO Ideas” set

LEGO has announced the upcoming release of a unique building set, the “LEGO Ideas Minifigure Gacha”.
This innovative LEGO set combines the joy of LEGO building with the excitement of a retro-style capsule toy (gashapon) machine.

The “LEGO Ideas” platform, where this set originated, is a cornerstone of LEGO’s engagement with its global fan community and allows LEGO enthusiasts to submit their own original set designs, which are then voted on by the public.
If a project gets enough support (typically 10,000 votes), it enters a review phase by LEGO designers which will determine if it can produced and released as an official LEGO set.

The “LEGO Ideas Minifigure Gacha” is based on an old school capsule toy machine and is designed to create a sense of nostalgia for “the good old days” of arcade machines and classic gashapon experiences.
Beyond being a display model, the set incorporates a functional mechanism: users can insert a specially designed LEGO coin into a slot and turn a handle just like you do with a real gashapon machine. The model will then dispense one of 16 different capsules.

Each capsule contains parts that, when assembled, form a unique LEGO minifigure.
The lineup of 16 minifigures is a diverse and celebratory collection, catering to both long-time LEGO aficionados and new fans.

It includes four minifigures specifically selected through fan votes on the “LEGO Ideas” platform as well as others that pay homage to various classic LEGO series and themes.
The set also features a minifigure representing the fan designer who submitted the idea for this innovative set to LEGO.
The “LEGO Ideas Minifigure Gacha” will be available for purchase from the official LEGO online store starting June 4th, 2025 and will be priced at 24,980 yen (approx. $174 USD / £129 GBP).
