teamLab is an internationally acclaimed art collective, famous for its large-scale, immersive, and interactive digital art installations.

This new museum is a massive, 10,000-square-meter space that is composed of over 50 different artworks, including a number of pieces that are being shown in Japan for the first time.

The museum is built around the concept of “environmental phenomena,” where the environment itself creates phenomena that then become the artwork.

An opening ceremony was held to celebrate the launch, which was attended by the Mayor of Kyoto, Koji Matsui, and the founder of teamLab, Toshiyuki Inoko.

One of the first visitors, a Canadian tourist in her 20s, said:

“I’m so happy to be able to come to ‘teamLab Biovortex Kyoto’ on the first day of my trip to Japan. The artwork where the flow of the waterfall changes when you touch the wall was fantastical.”

The new museum features a number of different zones, including an “Athletics Forest” and a “Future Park.”

“teamLab Biovortex Kyoto” is located in the Minami ward of Kyoto, within walking distance of Kyoto Station.
