Kasane Teto's Love of Baguettes Inspires New Official Plush

Kasane Teto’s long-running love affair with baguettes is about to become an oversized arcade prize, with Taito Toys announcing a new plush that dresses the beloved virtual singer in an adorable French bread costume.

Kasane Teto began life in 2008 as an April Fools’ joke created by users of the Japanese message board 2channel, where she was introduced as a fake VOCALOID before eventually becoming a real virtual singer through the UTAU singing synthesis software and later receiving a Synthesizer V AI voicebank in 2023.

Her association with French bread has become one of the character’s most recognizable traits over the years, with baguettes officially listed as her favorite food and eventually becoming her signature character item during the early days of the VOCALOID and UTAU fandom, where fans often assigned iconic objects or foods to their favorite virtual singers.

That playful tradition eventually turned the humble baguette into one of Teto’s defining symbols, making it almost as closely associated with the character as her distinctive twin-drill hairstyle.

The newly revealed prize plush embraces that running joke by wrapping Kasane Teto in a soft baguette, transforming her favorite food into an irresistibly cute costume while preserving her instantly recognizable red twin-drill hairstyle and cheerful appearance.

Measuring approximately 40 cm tall, the plush offers an impressive display size that should stand out whether it is sitting on a shelf or accompanying other virtual singer collectibles.

Collectors will also have two different facial expressions to hunt for, giving arcade players an extra challenge if they want to complete the full set.

The Kasane Teto French Bread Kigurumi Plush will arrive as an arcade prize at amusement centers across Japan beginning July 18, 2026.
