Japanese doll style statue of Nier:Automata’s 2B will set you back over $1300

Figure manufacturer FuRyu has joined forces with a traditional Japanese doll maker to create a unique statue based on 2B from the “NieR:Automata” series.
This exquisite 1/4 scale figure is part of FuRyu’s “Japanese Doll Series” and reimagines the android warrior in a casually styled kimono, capturing her strength and beauty in a distinctive aesthetic.

The statue is being produced in collaboration with Yoshitoku, a Japanese company with a long history of crafting and selling traditional Japanese dolls.
The figure is based on 2B’s appearance in “NieR:Automata Ver1.1a”, the anime adaptation of “NieR:Automata”, a critically acclaimed action role-playing game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix.

Released in 2017, the game follows the story of combat androids 2B, 9S, and A2 in their battle against machine lifeforms that have invaded a post-apocalyptic Earth.
This special figure portrays 2B in a unique “Japanese doll” style, with the costume prototype crafted by well regarded doll artist Ayumi Uyama.

The design envisions 2B bravely confronting her enemies while adorned in a casually arranged kimono, a departure from her standard gothic attire, yet retaining her powerful presence.
The attention to detail in the figure’s garment is remarkable. The fabrics used for the furisode (long-sleeved kimono) and obi (sash) are made of luxurious brocade, a traditional Japanese textile known for its intricate woven patterns and glossy texture.

The furisode features an all-black brocade, referred to as “mukinmono,” which intentionally omits the typical use of gold thread to align with 2B’s signature aesthetic.
The brocade pattern on the furisode is a traditional court motif called “kumotatewaku”, a design considered auspicious as it combines elements of “cloud air” and “rising luck”.

This motif is imbued with the wish for happiness to accompany 2B as she navigates the cycle of reincarnation, a recurring theme within the “NieR” universe.
The obi belt is crafted from a silver-white brocade and features a dynamic pattern of waves crashing against a cliff, symbolizing inner strength and resilience, traits deeply associated with 2B’s character.

The figure shows attention to detail in other aspects of her attire, including her shiny boots and gloves, which are rendered with carefully sculpted wrinkles to enhance their realism.
The overall appearance of the figure is a cool and beautiful aesthetic unified in black, seamlessly blending strength and elegance.

This high-end collectible comes with a price tag of 198,000 yen (tax included, approx. $1360 USD/£1024 GBP), reflecting the craftsmanship, high-quality materials involved due to the involvement of Yoshitoku.
