Hello Kitty’s Official Tag Party Game Heads to Nintendo Switch 2 This November
Imagineer has officially revealed a Nintendo Switch 2 version of “Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party,” adding a new game mode, map and local GameShare support to the Sanrio action game.
Originally released for Nintendo Switch in Japan during March 2025 before launching internationally later that year, the game turns classic tag into an asymmetrical battle starring more than 30 Sanrio characters including Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, Kuromi and Pompompurin.
Each match divides the characters between six Challengers attempting to avoid capture and two Hunters trying to catch everyone before time expires, with individual magical skills giving each member of the roster different strengths.
Players can also collect Jewels to unlock characters and alternate outfits, while a separate Mission Mode includes more than 70 challenges split between the Challenger and Hunter roles.
Nintendo Switch 2 introduces a completely new “Speed Delivery” mode that replaces chasing and escaping with a race to collect gift boxes scattered around the stage and deliver them for points.
Helpful items appearing around each stage can be used during the competition, adding another layer to the race as players try to finish with the highest score.
A new Sand Island map is also being added, placing the Sanrio cast in a sandy environment that expands the selection of locations available for matches.
Existing stages will receive spring and fall variations as well, changing their scenery with two additional seasonal appearances.
Local GameShare support is another addition for Switch 2, allowing two nearby players to play together with only one copy of the game, including the option to share the session with an original Nintendo Switch.
Owners of the current Nintendo Switch release won’t necessarily need to buy the game again to access everything new, as Imagineer plans to offer “Speed Delivery,” Sand Island and the spring and fall stage variations separately through paid downloadable content.
The announcement arrives during a much larger expansion of Sanrio’s presence in gaming, with the company launching its own Sanrio Games publishing label earlier this year and planning roughly ten titles through March 2029.
Its first internally published console release, “Sanrio Partyland,” is set to launch for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on October 29, combining character customization with cooperative and competitive minigames starring Sanrio’s wider mascot lineup.
Sanrio is also preparing the worldwide launch of “Sanrio Kawaii Me Live!” in January 2027, a mobile rhythm game featuring Hello Kitty, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, My Melody and other characters across music performances and customizable stages.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of “Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party” will launch in Japan on November 26, 2026 for ¥4,580 (approximately $29 / £22), with an international release yet to be confirmed.
