Hatsune Miku Becomes a Goldfish Princess for Stunning New Scale Figure
Image by James RichardsonJapanese figure manufacturer Kaiyodo has opened pre-orders for an elaborate new Hatsune Miku scale figure that places the virtual singer inside a dreamlike aquatic scene inspired by goldfish and traditional Chinese styling.
The “Hatsune Miku Kingyo Ver. 1/7 Scale Figure” transforms original artwork by illustrators Hanasa and ATDan into a large 36 cm display piece filled with flowing fabric, translucent details and goldfish that appear to be swimming through the air around Miku.
Instead of adapting an existing Miku illustration, Kaiyodo commissioned the artwork specifically with a future figure in mind, asking the two artists to combine Hatsune Miku with goldfish and create a composition that would become especially impressive when translated into three dimensions.
Goldfish were chosen partly because of their association with good fortune in Chinese culture, while the wider concept also plays to Kaiyodo’s long history of producing detailed animal figures.
The company has previously revealed that the new statue is intended to become the first release in a broader series pairing Hatsune Miku with different animals, making the completed figure the starting point for a potentially much larger collection.
For the new Kingyo Ver. figure, Miku wears a bright Chinese-inspired outfit dominated by red and gold, with large sweeping sleeves decorated with goldfish patterns and a skirt shaped to resemble the delicate fins and tails of the fish surrounding her.
Her twin-tails, ribbons, the ends of her outfit and the goldfish fins make extensive use of translucent parts to strengthen the impression that the entire composition is drifting underwater, while pearlescent paint across the fish adds extra shine and depth to the clear material.
Kaiyodo has also used a 12-color printing process around Miku’s eyes to reproduce the unusually intricate appearance of the original illustration, with smaller details continuing through the gold decorations, printed sleeve patterns and exposed areas of the costume.
The finished figure measures approximately 36 cm tall including its display base, making it a substantial 1/7 scale release despite Miku herself being posed with a deliberately light, floating appearance.
The project has actually been in development for several years, having first been unveiled at Shanghai Wonder Festival in 2024 before Kaiyodo displayed its developing painted prototype during 2025.
It also represents part of a renewed push from Kaiyodo into large fixed-pose character figures, with the company describing the project during development as a chance to apply its sculpting and material expertise to a category it had not focused heavily on in recent years.
That expansion has already produced another ambitious Miku release, with Kaiyodo recently opening pre-orders for its “Qinglong Ver.” figure that transforms artwork by Suan Lily into an interpretation of Miku inspired by the Azure Dragon of Chinese mythology.
Kaiyodo is simultaneously taking Miku in a very different direction through its Revoltech range, having just confirmed an articulated figure of Shiteyanyo, the infamous fan-created “hair-leg” meme that became part of Hatsune Miku’s early internet history.
Pre-orders for the “Hatsune Miku Kingyo Ver. 1/7 Scale Figure” opened on September 8 at 12:00 PM JST, with Kaiyodo’s own reservation window scheduled to remain available until November 6 at 3:00 PM JST.
The figure is priced at ¥44,000 (approximately $282 / £209) and is scheduled for release in June 2027.
