Godzilla Minus Zero announced as sequel to academy award-winning Godzilla Minus One

Toho has officially announced the title of the next entry in its iconic Godzilla franchise: ‘Godzilla-0.0’ (Godzilla Minus Zero).
The major reveal took place on November 3 at the “Godzilla Fes 2025” event, confirming the new film will be a sequel to the 2023 global blockbuster Godzilla-1.0.

The Godzilla franchise is one of Japan’s most enduring and significant cultural exports.
Godzilla-1.0 was released in November 2023 as the 70th-anniversary celebration film, and it swiftly became an unprecedented international success, lauded by critics and audiences alike.

The film’s story depicted a post-World War II Japan, already devastated and at “zero,” being plunged into a “minus” state by the catastrophic arrival of a new Godzilla.
The previous film achieved massive success, earning over 6 billion yen at the Japanese box office alone in just four months.

Its acclaim culminated at the 96th Academy Awards, where it won for Best Visual Effects.
This historic victory was the first time a Japanese or Asian-produced film had ever won in the category, cementing the movie’s place in cinematic history.

Takashi Yamazaki, who was central to the success of the previous film, will return to write, direct, and oversee the visual effects for ‘Godzilla-0.0’.

Toho is producing the film, with production handled by TOHO Studios and ROBOT, and the acclaimed visual effects studio Shirogumi will also be involved in the film’s VFX.

Information on the new project is currently limited to an official website and a one-minute teaser trailer.
The teaser clearly shows the text “G-1.0” transitioning to “G-0.0,” confirming the film will be a direct continuation of the story established in Godzilla-1.0.
