Frieren manga hits 30 million sales and returns from hiatus

Two major announcements have been made for the critically acclaimed fantasy manga, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
The series has now officially surpassed 30 million copies in worldwide circulation, and a date has been set for the manga to resume its serialization following a hiatus.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, is a story that begins after the heroes have already defeated the demon king.
It follows the journey of Frieren, an elven mage, as she outlives her human companions and grapples with the nature of time, life, and her connections to those around her.

This unique, post-adventure premise and its poignant exploration of time and relationships have earned the series numerous prestigious awards in Japan.
These accolades include the Manga Taisho grand prize in 2021, the New Creator Prize at the 25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Awards, and, more recently, wins at both the Shogakukan and Kodansha Manga Awards.

The manga’s global popularity was significantly accelerated by the success of its 2023 television anime adaptation.
Streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix brought the series to a massive new audience across North America, Europe, and Asia.

In a joint statement, the creators expressed their gratitude to the fans, attributing the series’ success to their continued support.
The Weekly Shonen Sunday editorial department also commented that the 30 million copy milestone reflects how the work has been accepted and resonated with readers around the world.
The series has become extremely popular with prize figures of the cast now available, as well as collaborations with fashion brands such as MAYLA.

It was also officially announced that the manga will resume its run in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine.
The next chapter will continue the story in the imperial capital, where an assassination plot unfolds during a tense ball.

The return of the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga is set for the issue of the magazine that goes on sale on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025.
The second season of the anime adaptation is scheduled to begin broadcasting in January 2026.
