Freedom Gundam Returns to GUNDAM UNIVERSE with Major Design Overhaul

BANDAI SPIRITS has revealed a newly updated Freedom Gundam figure for its GUNDAM UNIVERSE collection, continuing the line’s focus on delivering affordable action figures inspired by the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise for collectors around the world.
The release is based on the iconic ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, one of the series’ most recognizable mobile suits.

Within the anime’s setting, the Freedom Gundam was developed by ZAFT as a next-generation combat machine that incorporated technology obtained from the Earth Alliance’s captured GAT-X development program.

The machine combined advanced beam weapon systems with Phase Shift Armor and was powered by a nuclear reactor supported by a Neutron Jammer Canceller, allowing it to maintain a substantial energy supply during combat.

This abundant power output enabled the mobile suit to operate multiple high-performance weapons simultaneously, including its railguns and plasma beam cannons, while also supporting extended missions and independent atmospheric re-entry capabilities.

For this latest GUNDAM UNIVERSE release, the figure has been rebuilt around the company’s UNIVERSAL REACTION FRAME, an articulation system introduced in the line’s newer releases to significantly increase posing flexibility.

Compared with earlier versions, the redesigned internal structure allows for a wider range of movement, making it easier to recreate dramatic battle scenes and aerial action poses.

The exterior has also undergone extensive revisions, with both the armor layout and joint engineering reworked to create a slimmer and more refined appearance that more closely reflects the mobile suit’s on-screen proportions.

These design changes also contribute to more natural-looking leg positioning when displaying the Freedom Gundam in flight-oriented poses.

Included accessories consist of its signature beam rifle, defensive shield, and beam sabers, which can be combined to reproduce the mobile suit’s distinctive twin-bladed weapon configuration.

Collectors can also deploy the wings, side-mounted railguns, and plasma beam cannons to recreate the powerful Full Burst Mode attack sequence featured in the anime.

The pre-painted ABS and PVC action figure stands approximately 15 cm tall and is scheduled to arrive in October 2026, with a suggested retail price of 4,400 yen (approx. $30 USD/ £22 GBP).
