IVALICE CHRONICLES

The long-standing rumors surrounding a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics have been confirmed.

Square Enix officially unveiled “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles” during tonight’s PlayStation State of Play event, with a release date set for September 30th on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Final Fantasy Tactics, originally launched in 1997 for the PlayStation 1 in Japan and North America, is a significant entry in the Final Fantasy series. It arrived in Europe later with its War of the Lions re-release on PSP in 2007.

The remaster will offer fans the chance to play both the Classic and a new “Enhanced” version of the game

The game marked a departure from the traditional turn-based combat of its predecessors, shifting to a grid-based strategy system.

It also introduced the world of Ivalice, a setting that would later be utilized in Final Fantasy XII and the PlayStation 1 title Vagrant Story.

The game has received recognition for its detailed battle system and a narrative that explores political intrigue.

“The Ivalice Chronicles” will offer players both the original version of the game and a remastered version, providing an updated experience while preserving the game’s foundational elements.

Rumors of this remaster first surfaced with the notable Nvidia leak in 2021, which accurately foretold other Square Enix titles such as Final Fantasy VII Remake and Chrono Cross.

Further reports on the Tactics remaster’s existence emerged last summer, even as original director Yasumi Matsuno publicly downplayed revival rumors.

It seems that the cat is now out of the bag, as Square Enix has formally acknowledged the project’s existence.

Speculation continues regarding other titles from the leak, including a potential remake of Final Fantasy IX, particularly as Square Enix has recently released of a range of new merchandise to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary.

Other games announced as part of the State of Play event included Nioh 3, Capcom’s Pragmata, a new game from Suda 51 named ‘Romeo is a Dead Man’ and a Marvel themed 4v4 tag team fighter.
