Deadpool Samurai Manga Set to Return From Hiatus

Deadpool Samurai Returns

The popular manga series Deadpool: Samurai, by writer Sanshirō Kasama and artist Hikaru Uesugi, is preparing for its highly anticipated return.

The official Shonen Jump+ platform account confirmed that the serialization will resume on January 15.

The second season, which follows the Merc with a Mouth on his chaotic adventures, will be made free to read to celebrate the series’ resumption after entering a temporary hiatus in October of the previous year.

The launch of the second season itself was a surprise for fans of both manga and the Marvel character.

The return was initially teased as a seemingly innocuous romantic comedy titled Secret Steward.

When the first chapter of Secret Steward debuted on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service in August, it contained a sudden and humorous twist, revealing its true identity as the next installment of Deadpool: Samurai.

This massive in-comic gag, which involved the anti-hero appearing to kill the main character of the rom-com, kicked off the second season.

Shueisha later shipped the third collected volume in December.

Kasama and Uesugi first introduced the fan-favorite series as a one-shot manga on Shonen Jump+ a few years prior.

This initial publication was part of a larger, ambitious collaboration between Shueisha and Marvel Comics to produce a biweekly series of seven manga short stories featuring various Marvel characters.

Due to its success, the pair later launched a full short series, which ran from December 2020 and concluded in June 2021.

The North American publisher Viz Media released the first two collected volumes of the series to English-speaking audiences in 2022.

The manga is a successful blend of Japanese samurai cinema-style action and the character’s signature fourth-wall breaking humor, earning it a devoted global following.
