Danganronpa and The Hundred Line creator’s new game announced with teaser trailer

DMM GAMES has announced its latest project will be a collaboration with Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka and his studio TooKyo Games.
The new title is called “Shuten Kyodan” and will be a mystery-focused game that is planned release on multiple platforms, including DMM GAMES, Nintendo Switch and Steam.

This announcement marks the latest project from Kodaka, the visionary behind the critically acclaimed “Danganronpa” series and the more recent “Master Detective Archives: Rain Code”.
Kazutaka Kodaka has established himself as a prominent figure in the Japanese game development scene, particularly within the visual novel and adventure genres.

His works are often characterized by intricate branching plots, memorable and eccentric characters and dark and suspenseful narratives with unexpected twists.
The “Danganronpa” series, known for its blend of murder mystery, social simulation, and “class trial” gameplay which gained a significant international fanbase and was popular enough to get an anime adaptation.

The 2023 title “Master Detective Archives: Rain Code” further showcased his talent for crafting compelling mysteries with unique gameplay mechanics.
The announcement of “Shuten Kyodan” was accompanied by the launch of a teaser website and trailer, offering a cryptic glimpse into the game’s unsettling worldview.

The teaser heavily features a cult-like atmosphere, hinting at themes of religious extremism, manipulation, and impending doom.
Throughout the trailer, a series of phrases flash across the screen, posing intriguing questions and setting a tense tone.

These keywords include “God’s Trial”, “Find out who killed you”, “If you don’t, the world will end”, “Don’t believe what they say”, and an ominous countdown: “168 days left until the end of the world”.
These elements collectively suggest a narrative driven by mystery, investigation, and a race against time within a potentially dangerous and deceptive environment.

The game will be a collaboration between DMM GAMES, a well-known online platform that host a variety of games in Japan, and TooKyo Games, Kodaka’s studio.

The multi-platform release on PC via DMM GAMES and Steam and on the Nintendo Switch console aims to reach a wide audience of players who enjoy narrative-driven adventures.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of the release of TooKyo Games’ “The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy”, another title created by Kodaka.

Kodaka has been engaging on his X account with fans of “The Hundred Line” and discussing a potential anime adaptation.
The news of “Shuten Kyodan” also arrives amidst some troubling developments concerning another project Kodaka was involved in.

“TRIBE NINE”, a multimedia project that included an anime series and a game, announced earlier this week that its game service would be shutting down in November, less than a year after its initial operation.
The release date for “Shuten Kyodan” on Nintendo Switch and Steam has not yet been unannounced, but the unveiling of the teaser website and trailer signals that development is underway, and more information about the game’s mechanics, story, and release timeline should be revealed in the coming months.
The many fans of Kazutaka Kodaka’s previous works will be eagerly awaiting more details about this mysterious new title.
