Chiikawa is once again joining forces with the iconic American footwear and apparel brand Converse.

The collaboration was officially teased on Converse’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, generating excitement among fans of both brands.

The announcement of this latest collaboration follows collabs between Converse and other Japanese brands, including Naruto Shippuden, Bocchi the Rock!, Doraemon and Hololive’s Hoshimachi Suisei earlier this year.

Chiikawa, created by illustrator Nagano, has exploded in popularity in Japan and beyond, and is known for its adorable yet sometimes surprisingly melancholic characters and their slice-of-life adventures.

The main characters, Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi, have become popular with a wide audience, leading to a massive merchandising boom.

The characters are so popular that McDonald’s Japan descended into chaos over the course of 2 weeks as resellers purchased and abandoned meals in search of Chiikawa toys and the promotion had to end early.

Converse, on the other hand, is a global brand recognized for its classic sneakers, particularly the Chuck Taylor All-Star, and its long history of collaborations with diverse artists, brands, and pop culture phenomena.

This upcoming partnership marks the second time “Chiikawa” and Converse have collaborated.

Their initial team-up in December 2023 saw the release of a collection of six bags, including tote bags and multi-purpose pouches, which proved to be popular among fans.

The success of the first collaboration has undoubtedly paved the way for this follow-up.

The visual suggests that the characters will be central to the new merchandise designs, though the specific types of items remain unconfirmed.

As of the current announcement, no concrete details regarding the specific items, their designs, or pricing have been revealed.

June 20th has been set as the official unveiling for this information and Converse has promised to reveal more details on that date.
