Capcom Unveils Life-Size Mega Man Mega Buster Replica Built from Solid Aluminum
Image by Charlotte DavisCapcom has brought one of Mega Man’s most recognizable weapons into the real world, unveiling a unique life-size Mega Buster created from solid aluminum by specialist Japanese manufacturers.
Officially named the “1/1 Scale Rock Buster Pursuing the Ultimate Blue” in Japan, the one-off creation is currently being displayed at Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth and recreates the arm cannon known internationally as the Mega Buster.
The timing comes as Mega Man approaches a major milestone, with Capcom’s original action game first launching in Japan in December 1987 and the franchise set to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2027.
That anniversary will also bring a completely new entry in the series, “Mega Man: Dual Override,” which introduces both Mega Man and Proto Man as playable protagonists and is currently scheduled for release in spring 2027.
Capcom has positioned the real-world Mega Buster alongside a playable build of Dual Override at Tokyo Game Show, connecting the manufacturing project with the upcoming game as the franchise moves toward its anniversary year.
Mega Man has also appeared elsewhere during Tokyo Game Show’s own 30th anniversary celebrations, including on one of the six pure-gold character medals supplied with the event’s extraordinary ¥3.3 million commemorative ticket.
Outside TGS, Capcom recently teamed Mega Man with hololive GAMERS for another collaboration featuring Shirakami Fubuki, Ookami Mio, Nekomata Okayu and Inugami Korone in newly created Mega Man-inspired outfits alongside a dedicated merchandise range.
The new Mega Buster comes from a collaboration between Capcom and FactorISM, an Osaka-based initiative that brings together manufacturers and opens workshops to the public to showcase the skills behind Japanese industrial production.
The project developed after FactorISM received a corporate award from Capcom during the Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Local X STAGE 2025 program, eventually leading the two sides to explore how Mega Man could be recreated using the specialist capabilities of local manufacturers.
Creating the Buster’s physical form was handled by M’s Corporation in Shijonawate, Osaka, a manufacturer specializing in prototype development and precision machining.
The body was machined from solid aluminum, with M’s Corporation using equipment capable of micron-level precision to reproduce the smooth curved surfaces of Mega Man’s arm cannon.
Those rounded shapes presented one of the biggest challenges, as machining complex curves from metal requires far greater precision than producing the same form through conventional molded plastic.
The finished prop recreates familiar details from Mega Man’s weapon, including its large red muzzle and the charge indicators running along the side of the Buster.
Its blue finish required an entirely separate manufacturing process handled by Denken, a specialist metal-finishing business based in Osaka’s Ikuno Ward.
Denken developed the blue coloring specifically for the project and applied it through anodizing, a process that changes the surface of the aluminum itself instead of covering it with a conventional layer of paint.
The team also used their chrome-free electrolytic polishing technology before coloring the metal, helping produce the deep metallic finish that Capcom and FactorISM have described as the “Ultimate Blue”.
That combination of precision machining and specialist metal finishing means the finished Buster has the appearance of an actual manufactured piece of equipment, while still retaining the exaggerated shapes and colors associated with Mega Man’s original game design.
Despite looking like the kind of premium Mega Man replica that could easily find an audience among fans, the 1/1 Scale Rock Buster is a one-off technical showcase and isn’t currently planned for commercial sale.
Fans can see the life-size Mega Buster at Capcom’s booth during Tokyo Game Show 2026 at Makuhari Messe, where it will remain on display throughout the event from September 17 through September 21.
