Bandai Reveals Huge New PG UNLEASHED Nu Gundam Expansion Set
Bandai has revealed a major new expansion for the PG UNLEASHED Nu Gundam, adding a second set of Fin Funnels alongside clear armor that exposes much more of the model’s elaborate internal construction.
The “PG UNLEASHED 1/60 Fin Funnel & Clear Color Body for Nu Gundam” was announced during the “Latest! Gunpla Info Bureau” broadcast on August 25 alongside four completely new Gunpla releases spanning Gundam ZZ, The 08th MS Team, Gundam 00 and Gundam SEED Freedom.
The RX-93 Nu Gundam is Amuro Ray’s final mobile suit in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, where its six Fin Funnels combine remote weaponry with defensive beam barriers while giving the machine its instantly recognizable asymmetrical silhouette.
Bandai’s PG UNLEASHED version takes the Nu Gundam to 1/60 scale with an extensively detailed internal frame, making the clear exterior included with the new expansion especially suited to showing off the engineering normally hidden beneath its armor.
The optional set provides six additional Fin Funnels, allowing owners of the separately sold PG UNLEASHED Nu Gundam to equip the backpack on both sides and recreate the much larger Double Fin Funnel configuration.
That changes the appearance of an already enormous Perfect Grade considerably, replacing the standard one-sided arrangement with two matching banks of funnels extending across the back.
The other half of the set replaces the Nu Gundam’s regular exterior with transparent parts, exposing the layered frame and mechanical detailing across the body without requiring builders to leave armor panels removed.
Bandai is extending that clear treatment to the weapons as well, with transparent components included for the Beam Rifle, New Hyper Bazooka and shield.
The expansion can therefore be used to emphasize the internal frame, create the Double Fin Funnel version or combine both ideas into a substantially different display from the standard PG UNLEASHED build.
It was one of five Gunpla announcements made during the broadcast, with the RG 1/144 Ground Type Gundam bringing Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team’s main Earth Federation machine into the Real Grade line.
Bandai showed the RG prototype in its characteristic kneeling firing position with the 180mm Cannon, while an opening rear container and a dedicated support for the shield add further options for recreating its ground-combat scenes.
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ fans also received the HG 1/144 Hamma-Hamma, finally giving Mashymre Cello’s unusual Neo Zeon test machine a modern High Grade kit.
Its wired Psycommu forearms use flexible material and lead wires when deployed, allowing the three-barrel beam cannons to be positioned away from the main body in different attack configurations.
Gundam 00 was represented by the MGSD 00 Raiser, which combines the 00 Gundam with the 0 Raiser while retaining the dense mechanical detail and extensive articulation associated with Bandai’s high-end SD range.
The initial reveal showed the docking system, deployable GN Drives and a huge GN Sword beam effect made with light-gathering resin, giving the compact model some appropriately oversized display options.
The broadcast’s other major high-end announcement was the MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, bringing Kira Yamato’s final Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom machine into the MASTER GRADE EXTREME lineup.
The kit recreates the combination of the Strike Freedom Gundam Type II and Proud Defender, making it the first completely new mobile suit to join the main MGEX range since the Strike Freedom Gundam in 2022.
The RG 1/144 Ground Type Gundam is priced at ¥4,620 (approx. $29 USD / £21 GBP) and is scheduled for release in February 2027, while the HG 1/144 Hamma-Hamma costs ¥4,400 (approx. $28 USD / £20 GBP) and follows in March 2027.
The MGSD 00 Raiser is priced at ¥6,050 (approx. $38 USD / £28 GBP), while the MGEX 1/100 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam costs ¥26,400 (approx. $166 USD / £122 GBP), with both scheduled for March 2027.
The “PG UNLEASHED 1/60 Fin Funnel & Clear Color Body for Nu Gundam” is priced at ¥16,500 (approx. $104 USD / £76 GBP) and will open for pre-orders through Premium Bandai Japan on August 26 at 12:00 PM JST, with orders through Premium Bandai US likely to open either simultaneously or in the days following.
Bandai has not yet announced a shipping or release month for the expansion set, with this likely to be confirmed when pre-orders open.
