Bandai reveals box art for "HG 1/144 Red Gundam" model kit ahead of its upcoming release

BANDAI SPIRITS has revealed the box art for the highly anticipated Gunpla release, the “HG 1/144 Red Gundam”.

Gunpla, a portmanteau of “Gundam plastic model,” refers to the popular model kits based on the iconic Gundam franchise created by Sunrise.

Since its inception in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam, the Gundam series has grown into a vast multimedia phenomenon, encompassing anime, manga, video games and model kits.

The HG (High Grade) line is one of the most accessible and popular Gunpla grades, known for offering a balance of affordability, ease of assembly and good articulation and detail at the 1/144 scale, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced builders.

The “HG 1/144 Red Gundam” is a kit that allows you to build a replica of the Mobile Suit (MS) “Red Gundam” which appears in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.

HG 1144 Red Gundam 4 — The model kit includes several accessories and weapon parts

In Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s alternate take on the Gundam series “Universal Century” continuity, the “Red Gundam” is a mobile suit that was stolen from the Earth Federation Forces by Char Aznable.

It has been repainted red, as with many other mobile suits piloted by Char throughout the various Gundam series, and is now piloted by Shuji Ito.

HG 1144 Red Gundam 5 — The model has a great deal of articulation to allow it to be displayed in dynamic poses

The newly revealed packaging image, shared by the official BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division X (formerly Twitter) account, provides the first clear look at the kit’s box art:

The artwork prominently features the Red Gundam in a dynamic pose, with what appear to be two “bits” (remote-controlled weapon systems, often seen in Gundam series) deployed and a the “Gundam Hammer” being swung.

Its striking red color scheme and unique weapon loadout are expected to make it a popular addition to the HG lineup.

This new High Grade (HG) kit is set to launch on Friday, May 31st with a price of 2,750 yen (approx. $19.29 USD, / £14.32 GBP).
