Bandai Announces Mysterious New "GUNDAM XMX" Gunpla Project

Bandai Namco has announced a mysterious new original Gundam project promising a “new way to experience Gunpla,” with the first teaser offering several clues ahead of a full reveal next month.

Known as “GUNDAM XMX,” the project was revealed by Bandai Namco Shanghai through a short teaser trailer that gives almost nothing away about exactly what the company has planned.

The strongest clue comes from the teaser itself, which prominently features the logos for Bandai’s SD, High Grade, Master Grade, Real Grade and MGSD Gunpla lines.

That strongly suggests GUNDAM XMX will be centered around new Gunpla releases or a wider model kit project involving several of Bandai’s established grades.

Exactly how those different grades will be involved hasn’t been explained, and Bandai hasn’t yet shown any Mobile Suits, product images, prices or release dates connected with the project.

It also remains unclear whether GUNDAM XMX will introduce completely new Mobile Suit designs, new versions of existing Gunpla, or something that connects several of Bandai’s model kit lines in a different way.

Bandai Namco Shanghai has described the project as being aimed at Gundam model kit fans in mainland China, which raises the possibility that at least some of the products connected with GUNDAM XMX could be exclusive to the region.

That hasn’t been confirmed, however, and there is currently no information about whether any resulting Gunpla will later be released internationally.

China has become an increasingly important market for Gundam and Gunpla, with Shanghai currently home to the life-size Freedom Gundam statue that opened outside Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao in 2021.

The statue has also inspired several Gunpla releases, including the Freedom Gundam Ver.GCP and other Gundam Base products based specifically on the Shanghai design.

Bandai has continued expanding its physical Gunpla presence elsewhere in the country as well through dedicated Gundam Base stores, regional events and China-focused releases.

For now, Bandai is keeping the details of GUNDAM XMX under wraps, with the teaser directing fans toward Wonder Festival 2026 Shanghai for the project’s next major update.
