The Asakusa Kokusai Street Beat Festival is a powerful celebration of Okinawan culture held on the famous Kokusai Dori.

This event is centered around Eisa, a dynamic form of traditional Okinawan folk dance that features large taiko drums.

The festival has two main components, an energetic street parade and a series of stage performances.

During the afternoon, Kokusai Dori is filled with the thunderous sound of drums as various Eisa troupes parade down the street.

Performing groups include local youth associations and elementary school Eisa teams, showcasing a wonderful community spirit.

In addition to the parade, there are stage performances held in the public open space of the Asakusa View Hotel.

A raffle is also held as part of the festivities, with tickets distributed at participating local shops in the week leading up to the event.

Directions & Travel Information

  • By Train
    • The festival area along Kokusai Dori is easily accessible from several train and subway stations.
    • Tokyo Metro Ginza Line
      • Tawaramachi Station is located directly on Kokusai Dori and is an excellent access point for the southern end of the parade.
    • Tsukuba Express (TX) Line
      • Asakusa Station on the TX line is located at the northern end of Kokusai Dori, near the Asakusa View Hotel.
    • Toei Asakusa Line / Tobu Skytree Line
      • The main Asakusa Station complex is a 5 to 10-minute walk east of Kokusai Dori.
