New service allows you to rent a forest in Japan for a whole year

It will soon be possible to rent a forest in Nagasaki for a whole year.

“Forenta” allows individuals or groups to lease designated forest spaces for a term of one year, with the possibility of renewal under standard circumstances.

Lease holders are provided with exclusive access to their rented forest plot, enabling usage at their discretion, irrespective of work schedules or weather conditions.

The service caters to a broad range of activities, including solitary camping excursions and family recreational outings.

Many groups rent forest areas and setup small camp areas to use throughout the year

“Forenta” will soon set up their 23rd franchise location in Kawatana Town, within the Higashisonogi District of Nagasaki Prefecture.

Applications for potential users of the Kawatana Town Forenta area will be accepted from March 14th to April 13th, 2025.

Prospective users will also have the opportunity to participate in a joint preview event scheduled for Saturday, April 19th and Sunday, April 20th, 2025.

The Forenta-NAGASAKI Kawatana Camp Area is located within an oak forest, providing accessibility from several regional urban centers: approximately 100 minutes from Hakata (Fukuoka City), 80 minutes from Kurume City, and 60 minutes from Saga City.

The forest area is primarily comprised of oak trees

This marks the first “Forenta” location within Nagasaki Prefecture. The establishment of this franchise seeks to offer a new avenue for leisure and recreation within the natural forest environment of Kawatana Town, a region characterized by its proximity to both coastal and mountainous landscapes.

The specific area designated for the Kawatana Camp Area is notable for its abundance of mature oak trees.

The forest contains a large amount of fallen logs which renters are free to use

These trees, which retain their foliage throughout the winter months in a semi-deciduous manner, contribute to a consistent presence of greenery and provide shade and filtered sunlight.

The Kawatana Camp Area comprises a total of 24 individual rental plots.

Each plot possesses unique characteristics, varying in features such as the extent of level terrain and the availability of fallen logs.

Some of the plots are only accessible by foot

During the preview event, interested parties will be permitted to explore the area freely and select a plot that aligns with their specific needs and preferences.

The “Forenta” location in Kawatana Town is a franchise and will be operated by Mr. Masama Kikumoto, a resident of the town.

Mr. Kikumoto is actively involved in promoting a circular economy model through his business Asobiya Co., which involves the acquisition of discarded wood from logging and development operations, followed by its processing and sale as firewood.

Discarded logs are turned into firewood by the site operator

The partnership with “Forenta” aligns with Mr. Kikumoto’s commitment to the effective utilization of resources that might otherwise be considered waste. By providing opportunities for individuals to engage with forest spaces, the initiative aims to foster a greater appreciation for natural environments and promote sustainable practices.

Mr. Kikumoto also intends to diversify the offerings within the rented forest space.

Plans are underway to commence the sale of locally sourced wild boar meat and a variety of events within the area, including whole-roasted wild boar feasts, wild boar butchering demonstrations, trap setting workshops, campfires, DJ events, and tree-cutting experiences.
