You can make two mobile suits with the latest Iron-Blooded Orphans Gunpla kit
BANDAI SPIRITS has released new details, including updated images, for the upcoming Monkey Rodi Gunpla kit.
Originating from the spin-off game, Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urdr Hunt, this highly anticipated High Grade kit offers builders the unique ability to recreate two distinct mobile suit units by using interchangeable parts.
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise includes a variety of settings and universes which feature throughout various anime, films, and video games.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (IBO) is an anime series which aired on Japanese TV between 2015 and 2017.
Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urdr Hunt was a mobile game and spin-off that further explored this universe, introducing new mobile suits and characters.
The game closed at the start of 2024, but it was later announced in November the same year that Urdr Hunt is currently planned to receive an anime adaptation.
The “High Grade (HG)” line, at 1/144 scale, is a popular choice for Gunpla builders, known for its balance of accessible assembly and detailed sculpting, making it suitable for a wide range of modelers.
The Monkey Rodi is characterized by its distinctive round appearance and robust design.
The Gunpla kit had previously been shown to the public as part of a Gundam 45th anniversary livestream which showed several prototype kits.
This HG kit reproduces its design and functionality, and includes parts for both the Monkey Rodi (598 units) and Monkey Crab Rodi which allows builders to choose between two versions.
The Monkey Rodi (598 units) mobile suit used by 598 in the Urdr Hunt game is the default model that this kit will create.
The Monkey Crab Rodi can be recreated using the included replacement parts.
This flexibility in a single kit offers excellent value and display options for collectors.
The kit comes equipped with a variety of weapons, reflecting the often utilitarian and brutal combat style of the Iron-Blooded Orphans series:
- Crowbar:
- A simple yet effective melee weapon, indicative of the scavenged and industrial nature of weaponry in IBO.
- Submachine Gun:
- For close-quarters ranged engagements.
- Shield:
- For defensive maneuvers.
- Grenades:
- These can be strategically attached to the back of the side armor or displayed using a dedicated right hand part designed specifically to hold a grenade.
The “HG 1/144 Monkey Rodi (598 units) / Monkey Crab Rodi” kit is priced at 1,870 yen ($12.89 USD / £9.53 GBP).
Pre-orders for the kit are now open through the majority of hobby goods and model kit specialist stores, and it is expected to ship to customers release in November 2025.
