World Trigger Manga Takes Break Due to Author’s Health

World Trigger Manga Takes Break

The popular World Trigger manga is once again going on a temporary hiatus.

The official social media account for the series announced the break, citing the ongoing poor health of author Daisuke Ashihara.

This means the manga will not publish a new chapter in the upcoming issue of Shueisha’s Jump SQ. magazine.

The series is currently scheduled to resume publication in the magazine’s March issue, which will ship on February 4.

This latest break continues a pattern of interruptions necessitated by Ashihara’s physical condition.

Earlier this year, the series took a one-month break in January to allow the creator time to work on a new compiled book volume, which was then extended by another month in February for health-related reasons.

After its return in March, the manga took a subsequent one-issue break in August before continuing publication into September.

Ashihara first launched World Trigger in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.

The series initially went on hiatus in November 2016 due to the author’s poor physical health.

It briefly returned to the magazine in October 2018 for five issues before making a permanent move to the monthly Jump SQ. magazine two months later.

The manga’s 29th compiled book volume was released in Japan in early December.

For English-speaking fans, the series is published simultaneously in English digitally by both Viz Media and MANGA Plus, with Viz Media also handling the print publication.

The World Trigger franchise is also expanding with a major new anime adaptation in the works.

The anime is set to receive a “Reboot Project” from Toei Animation, which will re-adapt the original manga starting from the very first chapter.

This project is expected to cover key story segments, including the Border Enlistment Arc, the Large-Scale Invasion Arc, and the B-Rank Wars Arc.

The anime production staff has described this upcoming series as a “powered up World Trigger 1st Season.”

The existing Toei Animation television anime began with its first season premiering in October 2014, followed by a sequel season a year later.

Crunchyroll began streaming the English dub of that first season in February 2020.

The second season of the anime followed later, airing for twelve episodes in January 2021.

The third season premiered in October 2021 on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation programming block.

All subsequent seasons were streamed by Crunchyroll as they aired in Japan, and both the second and third seasons have received English dubs.

Beyond the page and screen, the franchise also boasts a successful stage play adaptation history.

The first stage play premiered in late 2021, the second ran in August 2022, and the third ran in August 2023.
