Two stylish new Mobile Suit Gundam sukajan jackets released

If you’re a fan of all things Gundam that also enjoys Japanese culture, you’ll soon be able to add some fashionable new jackets that combine the two to your wardrobe.

BANDAI’s Lifestyle Business Department has announced the release of new souvenir jackets (also commonly referred to as sukajan) under its STRICT-G apparel brand, which integrates the world of Mobile Suit Gundam into high quality fashion pieces.

STRICT-G, established in April 2012, is an apparel shop that embodies “COOL JAPAN” by incorporating the aesthetics of the Mobile Suit Gundam universe into authentic men’s clothing. It operates multiple stores in Japan and collaborates with prominent Japanese brands while offering original merchandise.

Previous STRICT-G products have included traditional Hanten style jackets, leather flight jackets and Hokkaido themed t-shirts.

Two jacket designs based on the original Mobile Suit Gundam will be available, each incorporating a famous mobile suit from the series alongside traditional Japanese design elements.

The Gundam franchise, first launched in 1979, is a monumental science fiction property recognized globally for its giant robots (Mobile Suits), complex narratives, and exploration of war and humanity.

Let’s take a look at both of the jackets in more detail!

STRICT-G Mobile Suit Gundam Japan Pattern Sukajan

These jackets feature a lustrous, smooth satin fabric with dynamic, traditional Japanese-style illustrations rendered through delicate embroidery.

Each jacket is reversible, offering two distinct looks.

RX-78-2 Gundam Model:

The main side is navy and white, with embroidered cranes and the Earth Federation Force mark on the front.

The back features a Japanese-style design combining cranes, Mount Fuji, and the RX-78-2 Gundam.

The reversible side is black and silver, with a “rocker-style” E.F.S. FORCE logo embroidered on the back. A double-sided zipper allows for versatile styling.

Char’s Zaku II Model:

The main side is black and red, featuring embroidered hawks and the Principality of Zeon mark on the front.

The back showcases a Japanese-style design of a hawk, cherry blossoms, and Char’s Custom Zaku II.

The reversible side is pink-red and gold, with a “rocker-style” ZEON FORCE logo embroidered on the back, creating a strong visual presence.

If the original Mobile Suit Gundam is a bit too retro for your tastes – STRICT-G will also be releasing a third sukajan/souvenir jacket based on the popular Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz OVA/theatrical film:

STRICT-G Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz Sukajan (30th Anniversary Edition)

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, this jacket features the Wing Gundam Zero (EW) design from Endless Waltz.

Made from lustrous satin, it also boasts intricate embroidered illustrations and is reversible.

The main side is blue and white, with feathered wings on the front and the Wing Gundam Zero (EW) holding its Twin Buster Rifle on the back.

The reversible side is blue and champagne gold, with the Preventer mark on the front and a Preventer A.C. 19 logo embroidered on the back, making it a prominent item.

This jacket also includes a double-sided zipper for flexible wearing.

Each Sukajan, regardless of the model, is priced at ¥35,200 (approx. $245 USD / £181 GBP), with additional shipping and handling fees.

They are available in sizes M, L, XL, and XXL. Both sides of the jackets are made from 100% polyester, with ribs composed of 65% acrylic, 30% wool, and 5% polyurethane.

Pre-orders began on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at 1:00 PM JST on the “STRICT-G Online Store” within the Bandai Namco Group’s official online store, Premium Bandai.

The pre-order period runs until Sunday, June 15th, 2025, at 11:00 PM JST, with products scheduled for shipment in June 2025. Pre-orders may close early if the jackets sell out.

General retail sales at physical STRICT-G stores will commence on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
