Take a look inside Tokyo’s new One Piece exhibition
A new ONE PIECE exhibition has opened in Tokyo at the PLAY! MUSEUM in the city’s Tachikawa area. Opening on the 9th of October 2024, the exhibition will run until the 13th of January 2025.
Titled “ONE PIECE ONLY”, the exhibition focuses on the 1,000th chapter of the manga, and reveals the creation process of ONE PIECE from a sheet of paper to being distributed to the hands of millions of readers.
With unrestricted access to the processes involved, the exhibition shows something that no one has ever seen before.
Both the name, the first rough draft of a manga chapter and the manuscript, the finished draft produced by a manga artist and given to the publisher to prepare for printing, of chapter 1,000 of ONE PIECE will be on display.
A walkaround video promoting the exhibition is available online courtesy of ComicNatalie, giving a scale of the area the exhibition takes place over, and further demonstrates the wide variety of articles that are sure to interest fans of the series.
The exhibition takes you through the process from the origins of ideas in ONE PIECE creator Eiichiro Oda’s mind making their way into the draft of a chapter and shows you how this initial draft is further fleshed out into the final chapter that you see printed in magazines, or online.
Whilst some specific elements may have restricted photography, as typically names and manuscripts are light sensitive and may be affected by camera flashes, the exhibition has you covered with a photo opportunity area complete with Luffy’s hat, allowing you to pose with the exhibition artwork in place of Luffy.
Advance tickets are required to visit the exhibition, with online sales available via 7-Eleven Japan’s “7Ticket” system. Tickets can also be purchased directly from 7-Eleven stores – this useful guide helps walk you through the process to use 7-Eleven’s in store ticketing machines.
No “on the day” tickets can be purchased at the PLAY! MUSEUM.
Tickets can only be reserved 1 month in advance, with ticket sales for November having opened on the 1st of October and tickets for December through to the end of the event on January 13th going on sale on the 1st of November.
All ticket purchases include an exclusive 192 page manga sized official exhibition catalogue as a gift (one per person, no additional sales.).
Tickets to the “ONE PIECE ONLY EXHIBITION” cost 2,400 yen for adults, with prices for children varying depending on age.
