The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has officially pulled back the curtain on Tokyo Game Show 2026, and it’s shaping up to be the most ambitious iteration of the festival to date.

Celebrating its landmark 30th anniversary, the event will return to Makuhari Messe with a historic change to its format, as the organisers have promised the longest event ever, described as “5 days full of fun!”

For the first time in the show’s history, TGS will expand to a five-day run, scheduled from Thursday, September 17 to Monday, September 21, 2026.

The extra day, falling on a Japanese national holiday, is designed to accommodate the massive crowds that flock to the venue annually.

Since its debut in 1996, Tokyo Game Show has served as the heartbeat of the global gaming industry.

To commemorate three decades of play, CESA has unveiled a special 30th Anniversary Logo featuring a black, white, and gold color palette.

Organizers have teased that the 2026 event will feature exclusive anniversary projects both at the physical venue and online.

While specific details remain under wraps, the focus is on creating a “hybrid” experience that bridges the gap between industry professionals and casual gaming families.

By extending the public open days to three days (Saturday through Monday), CESA aims to alleviate the chronic congestion seen in previous years.

This expansion will allow more attendees to access high-demand playable demos that are often fully booked within minutes of the gates opening.

2026 marks the introduction of new ticket types for both Business and Public days.

These tickets will include “added services” designed to improve visitor satisfaction and streamline the experience within the Makuhari Messe infrastructure.

TGS will also be leaning harder into its international status and new overseas briefing sessions, and cross-promotional campaigns at other global entertainment events are planned to take place in the run-up to the 2026 event.
