The new voice of Monokuma has been revealed for Super Danganronpa 2×2
Spike Chunsoft has announced that the new voice of the iconic character Monokuma will be the actress Wasabi Mizuta.
Ms. Mizuta will be taking over the role for the upcoming high-speed mystery action game, Super Danganronpa 2×2.
Monokuma is a key and beloved character who appears throughout the entire Danganronpa series.
The role was originally played by Nobuyo Oyama, and was later passed on to TARAKO, who voiced the character until her passing in 2024.
This new casting continues a fascinating legacy.
The original voice of Monokuma, Nobuyo Oyama, was also the famous and long-running voice of the beloved anime character Doraemon from 1979 to 2005.
Wasabi Mizuta is the current voice actress for Doraemon, having taken over the role in 2005.
A new video has been released by Spike Chunsoft, titled “A Greeting from Monokuma!,” which officially introduces Ms. Mizuta’s new take on the character.
In a comment, the game’s producer, Shohei Sakakibara, paid his respects to the previous voice actors.
“We would like to express our deepest respect and gratitude to Nobuyo Oyama and TARAKO for breathing life into Monokuma,” he said.
“The Monokuma they played is an irreplaceable part of the series… We are all looking forward to the new life and charm that Ms. Mizuta will bring to Monokuma through her rich expression and humor.”
This announcement comes as new merchandise for the series is also being revealed.
Good Smile Company also recently announced a new, upgraded “Nendoroid Monokuma 2.0.”
That new figure, which is now available for pre-order, includes a special gimmick that allows its eye to be lit up with an LED.
Super Danganronpa 2×2 is a remake of the 2012 classic, which will feature a completely new, “what-if” scenario with different victims and culprits.
The game is scheduled to be released in 2026 for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
