The McDonald’s Japan x Street Fighter 6 collab reveals new “McDonald’s EX Color” costumes for Guile and Akuma

McDonald’s Japan is set to expand its first-ever collaboration with Capcom’s hit fighting game, Street Fighter 6.
The collaboration launched in October with the release of a range of “Street Burgers,” based on popular characters Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li.

A range of special in-game “McDonald’s EX Color” costumes have also been released as part of the collaboration, which has so far seen Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Vega (M. Bison) receive the special outfits.

Now, McDonald’s Japan and Capcom have announced that Akuma (Gouki) and Guile are set to join the line-up of characters receiving collaboration color costumes.

The announcement has sparked joy and surprise from some players, but not just because of the new McDonald’s themed costumes.

The official Street Fighter X account is encouraging players to enjoy using the “‘Makudo’ EX Color” (マクド) costumes in-game.

This “Makudo” phrasing is notable because McDonald’s Japan has two famous nicknames: “Makku,” which is common in Tokyo and most of the country, and “Makudo,” which is primarily used in the Kansai region, including Osaka.

Street Fighter 6 developer Capcom is headquartered in Osaka, leading fans to speculate this is the reason for the “Makudo” branding.

McDonald’s Japan has run playful campaigns in the past, such as a 2017 “Makku Army vs. Makudo Army” promotion, and has stated that both nicknames are officially acceptable.

The “McDonald’s EX Color” costumes are being distributed via publicly released download codes.

Here is the full lineup of available codes:
