Take a look inside Tokyo’s new NieR 15th Anniversary Exhibition

The first-ever major exhibition celebrating the 15th anniversary of the popular NieR video game series, “NieR 15th Anniversary EXHIBITION: The Uneraseable Record,” is now being held.
The event, which is taking place at the Ikebukuro Sunshine City complex in Tokyo, offers a chronological journey through the history of the acclaimed franchise.

The NieR series began in 2010 with the release of NieR Replicant/Gestalt and achieved massive global success with its 2017 sequel, NieR:Automata.
Upon entering the exhibition, visitors are greeted by a new key visual drawn by D.K., the original character designer for the first game, and a detailed timeline of the series’ history.

The first section is dedicated to the origins of the franchise, NieR Replicant/Gestalt.

This area features character introductions and displays of real-world replicas of iconic in-game items, such as the magical talking book, Grimoire Weiss, the Beastlord sword, and the humble iron pipe.

A key highlight of this section is a display of the original design documents for the first game, offering a rare glimpse into its initial conception.

The next area is dedicated to the global blockbuster, NieR:Automata.

This section features a heavy focus on the protagonist, 2B, with displays of large dolls and real costumes.

It also showcases rare and high-end collectibles, including a previously released statue that cost around ¥300,000, and a special diorama of the “Flooded City” created by the artist Takashi Segawa.

Props of the tactical support units, Pod 042 and Pod 153, which were created for the anime adaptation, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, are also on display.

Subsequent sections are dedicated to the mobile game, NieR Re[in]carnation, which features a new, life-sized statue of the character “Mama,” and the various “YoRHa” stage plays, which have their costumes exhibited.

The exhibition also features an interactive “hidden Emil” hunt and concludes with a secret final area designed to be a moving experience for long-time fans.

The “NieR 15th Anniversary EXHIBITION” began on Saturday, the 9th of August, and is scheduled to run until the 31st of August, 2025.
