Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and two new amiibo confirmed for Nintendo Switch
A major double announcement for the Super Mario franchise was made during a “Nintendo Direct” presentation held on Friday, the 12th of September.
A new animated film, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” was revealed, and a new Nintendo Switch game collection, “Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2,” was also announced.
The new game is a port of the two classic, critically acclaimed 3D platformers that were originally released for the Nintendo Wii.
While Super Mario Galaxy was previously included in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation for the Nintendo Switch, this collection will bring both of the beloved, space-themed Galaxy games to the console for the first time.
The new animated film is a follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
While that film was a massive global success, this new sequel will be based specifically on the world of the Super Mario Galaxy games.
Its story will introduce the powerful and enigmatic protector of the cosmos, Rosalina, a character who first debuted in the original Wii game.
It is highly anticipated that the main voice cast from the first film, including Chris Pratt as Mario and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, will reprise their roles for the sequel.
In addition to the new game and film, a pair of new amiibo figures were also announced.
The two new figures are “Mario & Luma” and “Rosalina & Luma.”
This wave of new announcements marks a major, franchise-wide celebration of the beloved Super Mario Galaxy sub-series.
The “Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2” game collection is scheduled to be released for the Nintendo Switch on Thursday, the 2nd of October, 2025.
The new amiibo figures are scheduled to be released on Thursday, the 2nd of April, 2026.
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is scheduled to be released in April 2026.
