Square Enix Reveals New Final Fantasy VII Board Game

Square Enix has opened pre-orders for an exciting new cooperative tabletop board game based on Final Fantasy VII.
“Ascend The Shinra Tower: Final Fantasy VII Board Game” challenges fans to carefully balance physical components while climbing the infamous corporate headquarters.

Final Fantasy VII is a critically acclaimed role-playing title that originally launched in the late nineties to massive global success.
The iconic plot follows a mercenary named Cloud Strife as he joins an eco-terrorist group to battle the corrupt Shinra Electric Power Company.

This new tabletop adaptation tasks players with recreating the memorable infiltration of the Shinra Building in a highly tense physical balancing act.
Participants must work together to carefully stack flat floor tiles on top of upright wall structures to climb progressively higher.

As the cardboard building grows taller, the structure gradually tilts and becomes increasingly unstable.
Players must maintain perfect coordination to keep the tower balanced and avoid a disastrous collapse.

The primary objective is to successfully guide the Cloud token to the eighth floor without causing the entire structure to fall over.
To complicate matters further, enemy encounters will appear during the ascent and must be strategically handled by the group while keeping everything perfectly stable.

The fast-paced board game supports one to five players and boasts an average playtime of fifteen to thirty minutes per session.
Inside the box, buyers will find twenty floor tiles, fifty-four wall pieces, and twenty-four action cards to facilitate the climb.

The set also includes twenty-four custom wooden tokens representing various monsters alongside familiar heroes like Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith.

Fans of the series will be pleased to know that the package design and character artwork were directly supervised by legendary character designer Tetsuya Nomura.
The “Ascend The Shinra Tower: Final Fantasy VII Board Game” is priced at 4,400 yen in Japan, with pricing via Square Enix’s North American and European stores set at $34.99 USD and €34.99 EUR respectively.
The game is scheduled to launch across Japan on Friday, November 6, 2026 with the European and North American release set to follow shortly after in January 2027.
The included rulebook for all versions is printed in Japanese, English, French, and German, so fans who don’t want to wait until 2027 could purchase the Japanese version to play the game sooner.
