Sonic and the Olympics announce new collab with official merch coming in 2026

SONIC OLYMPICS

A new, official licensing collaboration has been announced between the iconic video game character Sonic the Hedgehog and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The new partnership is a celebration of the official Olympic Brand and the world of Sonic and will see the release of a range of official licensed merchandise in 2026.

A trio of new, promotional teaser artworks was released with the announcement.

One image shows a group shot of the main characters of the modern franchise, Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Shadow.

Another shows Sonic rendered in the five colors of the Olympic rings.

A third, and most intriguing, piece of art depicts Sonic on a snowboard.

This strongly suggests that the new collaboration will be themed around the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

That event is scheduled to be held in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from the 6th to the 22nd of February, 2026.

While Sonic is no stranger to the Olympics, having co-starred with his friendly rival Mario in a long-running and successful series of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games video games, this new announcement appears to be a separate, Sonic-only partnership directly with the Olympic Brand itself.

This new project will see the “world’s fastest hedgehog” officially team up with the world’s premiere sporting event once again.

More information regarding the new collaboration, including details of the merchandise that will be available, is scheduled to be released in 2026.

The new partnership was announced earlier today, Monday, the 6th of October.
