Shohei Ohtani receives one-of-a-kind Yu-Gi-Oh! card featuring his dog

Shohei Ohtani, the superstar dual-threat player for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has revealed a unique tribute to his beloved pet dog, Decoy (also known as Dekopin in Japanese).
Ohtani posted on his Instagram account showing off a custom Yu-Gi-Oh! card featuring Decoy, which was a special gift from KONAMI, the Japanese entertainment and gaming company.

Ohtani’s role as a baseball game ambassador for KONAMI is well-established, with the company having appointed him to promote their popular baseball video game series like “Powerful Pro Baseball” and “Professional Baseball Spirits”.
This ambassadorship, announced in January 2024 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Power Pros” and the 20th anniversary of “Pro Baseball Spirits”, has seen Ohtani featured prominently in promotional materials, including a special edition of a physical game with his slipcase.

His recent Instagram post, captioned “Yu-Gi-Oh x DECOY #MyTurnDraw,” is a playful expansion of his partnership with the gaming giant.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game (OCG) is a global phenomenon, a collectible card game developed and published by KONAMI based on the popular manga series by Kazuki Takahashi.

Since its debut in 1999, the card game has sold tens of billions of cards worldwide, making it one of the most successful trading card games in history.
Players engage in duels using monster, spell, and trap cards, aiming to reduce their opponent’s “Life Points” to zero.
The custom Yu-Gi-Oh! card gifted to Ohtani features a charming illustration of Decoy.

The image captures a memorable moment from August 28, 2024, when Decoy, a Dutch Kooikerhondje, famously “threw” the ceremonial first pitch at an Orioles game at Dodger Stadium.

In that heartwarming event, Ohtani carried Dekopin to the mound, placed the ball on the rubber, and then Decoy retrieved the ball in his mouth and carried it to Ohtani, who was poised to “catch” it.

This unique first pitch delighted fans and garnered significant media attention, showcasing Decoy’s calm demeanor in front of a massive crowd.
The card itself details Decoy’s attributes within the Yu-Gi-Oh! framework.

He is classified as a “Level 1 Light Attribute Normal Monster” with fittingly adorable stats of 50 Attack Points (ATK) and 50 Defense Points (DEF).
Normal Monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! game typically do not have special effects but are used for summoning powerful monsters or in conjunction with specific spell and trap cards.
Shohei Ohtani was also celebrated earlier this month with a unique piece of art, as Major League Baseball installed a series of manhole covers across Japan.

Each manhole cover featured custom artwork celebrating the career of a Japanese MLB player and were installed in the players hometown area.
