Sega launches new athletics project with “SONIC CUP 2025” skateboarding competition

Sega has announced the launch of “SONIC’S RISING ATHLETES,” a new project starring the character Sonic the Hedgehog that aims to support young, aspiring professional athletes.
Through this project, Sega will support a variety of sports to help foster a sense of courage and the strength to face challenges in children.

As the first part of this new initiative, Sega will be a special sponsor for the “SONIC CUP 2025,” a skateboarding competition for U-15 skaters organized by the Japan Skateboard Promotion Foundation (JSPF).
The goal of the tournament is to provide a competitive opportunity for skaters aged 15 and under and to support the long-term development of the next generation of athletes.

The competition will be held in two locations, one in the Tokyo area and one in Osaka.
The grand prize for the top two winners from each of the two events will be a five-night, seven-day training tour in Los Angeles, California.

The event will also feature demonstrations from some of Japan’s top professional skateboarders.
The lineup of demo riders includes the Olympians Yuro Nagahara and Hinano Kusaki, as well as other notable skaters like Sasaki Toa and Kyonosuke Yamashita.

In addition to the main competition, a beginner-friendly skateboarding experience and lessons from instructors will also be held.
In a comment, the skater Yuro Nagahara said:
“I’m very excited to hear that a game character like Sonic is supporting young skaters through this tournament.
I’m looking forward to enjoying skating with everyone at the same park on the day!”

The “SONIC CUP 2025” will be held at the following locations:
- Tokyo Tournament: Sunday, November 2nd, at the Instant Skateboard Park Kisarazu in Chiba.
- Osaka Tournament: Saturday, November 22nd, at Sennan Long Park in Osaka.
Registration for the competition began today, Monday, the 1st of September, on the VHS MAG official website.
