Pokémon’s new Water-type “Bath Buddies” sponges are too cute to use

The Pokémon Center has revealed a charming new product designed to make bath time more enjoyable.
The new “Ofuromo Issho! Bath Buddy” products are adorable stuffed sponges, shaped like Water-type Pokémon.

The Pokémon franchise, co-owned by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures Inc., originated in 1996 with the Japanese release of “Pokémon Red” and “Pokémon Green” video games for the Game Boy.

It has since evolved into a global phenomenon encompassing animated series, films, a highly successful trading card game, and a vast array of merchandise.
Pokémon Centers are official retail stores predominantly located in Japan, designed to replicate the in-game Pokémon Centers where trainers heal their Pokémon.

These real-world centers offer a wide range of exclusive Pokémon merchandise and serve as community hubs for fans, often hosting events and providing the latest information on the franchise.
New merchandise, such as Pokémon sleeping plushies and retro diner-themed and cowboy-themed Pikachu merchandise, is primarily sold at Pokémon Center stores.

The “Bath Buddies” are crafted from a mesh material, designed to be effectively lathered for use during bathing.
The collection focuses exclusively on popular Water-type Pokémon and the initial lineup includes five different Pokémon:
- Marill

A cute, blue mouse-like Pokémon first introduced in Generation II, known for its large, bouncy tail and playful nature.
Marill is a dual Water/Fairy-type, recognized for its cheerful disposition.
- Wooper

A charming, amphibious Pokémon from Generation II, characterized by its wide smile and external gills.
Wooper is a dual Water/Ground-type, often found in wetlands.
- Piplup

A popular penguin-like Pokémon from Generation IV, known for its proud and self-reliant personality.
Piplup is a Water-type and was one of the starter Pokémon choices in the Sinnoh region.
- Pyukumuku

A unique sea cucumber-like Pokémon from Generation VII, notable for its ability to eject its internal organs as a punch.
Pyukumuku is a pure Water-type, known for its placid yet surprising defensive capabilities.
- Quaxly

A flamboyant duckling Pokémon from Generation IX, one of the recent starter Pokémon choices in the Paldea region.
Quaxly is a pure Water-type with a meticulous nature and a penchant for keeping its feathers clean.
Each “Bath Buddy” comes equipped with a convenient ribbon, allowing users to easily hang the sponge to dry after use.

There will be a staggered release, with online availability preceding the in-store launch.
They are set to become available at Pokémon Centers across Japan on July 19th, with online availability at Pokémon Center Online starting earlier at 10:00 AM JST on July 17th.
Each Bath Buddy will be priced at 2,200 yen (approx. $14.90 USD / £11.08 GBP).
