Peter Molyneux’s Final Game Masters of Albion to Launch in April

22cans, the studio led by veteran game designer Peter Molyneux, has officially announced that its next title, “Masters of Albion”, is set to launch for PC via Steam on April 22, 2026.
The release will be available at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET.

This project, which Molyneux has called the “culmination of my life’s work,” is expected to be his final game and marks a return to the god game genre that he helped pioneer with titles like “Populous” and “Black & White”.
“Masters of Albion” is an ambitious hybrid, mixing elements of strategy, simulation, town management, and tower defense with a full-fledged action RPG experience.

The core gameplay loop is structured around a day and night cycle.
During the day, players assume the role of a god to oversee the undeveloped village of Oakridge, focusing on town management tasks like designing and building every structure, hiring and housing a workforce, and customizing buildings with patterns and paint.

This is done with the “God Hand,” which allows for instant construction with no timers or waiting.
When night falls, the game shifts dramatically as the town comes under attack from malevolent monsters and beasts.

The challenge then becomes one of defense and combat, requiring players to construct and arm powerful defensive turrets, erect walls to channel enemies, and hire heroes for protection.
A key feature of the game is its dual perspective.

As the God, the player can wield ancient powers using the God Hand, such as raining down lightning and fire, throwing giant boulders and explosive barrels, and manipulating the townsfolk through acts of admiration or cruelty.
However, the game also allows players to possess any living creature, including heroes, workers, dogs, and chickens.

Possessing a hero shifts the camera to a third-person view, enabling players to explore the vast, open world of Albion on foot, tackle challenges and quests, craft weapons and armor, and engage in direct real-time combat with enemies.
This mode is essential for pushing back the fog of war and unlocking new areas for the God Hand to interact with.

Molyneux, the creator of the “Fable” series, is joined by other industry veterans from his time at Bullfrog and Lionhead Studios, including Mark Healey, Russell Shaw, Iain Wright, and Kareem Ettouney.
Molyneux has stated that the game owes a great deal to his past projects, including “Dungeon Keeper”, “Black & White”, and “Fable”.

He has also publicly described the game as his final project, intending it to serve as a form of “redemption” following several underwhelming ventures.
