Osaka Castle Illuminage returns for 2025 with new samurai-themed illuminations

The grounds of Osaka Castle will be transformed into a spectacular world of light and history as the Osaka Castle Illuminage event returns for the winter season, running from Friday, November 1st, 2025, to Sunday, February 1st, 2026.

Set against the majestic backdrop of the castle’s main tower, this year’s illumination brings the ambitions and spirit of Japan’s Sengoku (Warring States) period to life.

The event will recreate the era with dazzling light displays depicting samurai warriors, glittering armor, and magnificent helmets, offering an immersive historical experience.

The popular “Osaka Tourist Spot Series” will also return, featuring illuminated replicas of city landmarks like the Tsutenkaku Tower, Dotonbori, and retro trams.

For a limited time, a 15% discount is available on advance tickets.

New Attractions for 2025

This year’s event introduces several new, large-scale displays:

• Guardians of the Dream

This new feature recreates the armor of six legendary samurai who played pivotal roles in history, including Kato Kiyomasa, Sanada Yukimura, and Honda Tadakatsu.

The display aims to revive the memory of the Sengoku period on an impressive scale.

• Lantern Corridor

A new immersive area where countless traditional Japanese lanterns will create a majestic and beautiful pathway of light, allowing visitors to walk through and feel part of the display.

Returning Favourites

Popular attractions from previous years are also set to return with upgrades:

• Osaka Tourist Spot Series

This vibrant area, celebrating the icons of Osaka, will once again light up the castle grounds.

The “takoyaki” display, which was a popular photo spot last year, is being considered for a further upgrade.

• Full Samurai Armor Collection

The well-regarded helmet collection has been expanded to feature full suits of samurai armor, creating a powerful and beautiful display of illuminated warriors.
