As part of the ongoing 25th-anniversary celebration for Final Fantasy IX, Square Enix will release a new line of collectible acrylic keychains.

Final Fantasy IX, first released in the year 2000, is a fan favorite entry in the long-running RPG series, known for its return to a classic high-fantasy setting and its deeply emotional, character-driven story.

A wide range of merchandise has been released to celebrate the game’s anniversary year, including a vinyl record and eyewear based on some of the most popular characters.

A key feature of this new keychain collection is that it uses brand-new character artwork created specifically for the 25th anniversary.

The illustrations were drawn by Toshiyuki Itahana, the original character designer for the game.

The collection consists of four different keychains, each featuring a pair of characters whose relationships were a memorable part of the game’s narrative.

The first keychain pairs the main protagonist, the charming thief Zidane Tribal, with the lead heroine, Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII.

Their developing romance forms the central pillar of the game’s main plot.

Another keychain features the unlikely duo of Vivi Ornitier, a shy and philosophical young black mage, and Adelbert Steiner, the comically rigid and overzealous knight.

Their journey from mutual distrust to a deep and loyal friendship is one of the most cherished subplots among the game’s fanbase.

The third design pairs the young summoner Eiko Carol with the stoic “salamander,” Amarant Coral.

The final keychain in the set features two of the more unique party members: the food-obsessed Quina Quen and the melancholic dragoon, Freya Crescent.

Each of the four acrylic keychain designs is priced at ¥1,100 and pre-orders can now be placed via the Square Enix online store.

The Final Fantasy IX acrylic keychains are currently scheduled for release on the 30th of September 2025.
