One Piece’s Official Bullet Train Collab Inspires Seiko’s Latest Limited-Edition Anime Watch

Seiko has transformed one of Japan’s most well known anime-themed trains into a new collector’s watch, with the One Piece Shinkansen Setouchi Blue now inspiring a limited-edition timepiece packed with references to both the Straw Hat Pirates and the real-world bullet train.
One Piece began as Eiichiro Oda’s manga in 1997 before expanding into the long-running TV anime, following Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they travel across the seas in search of the legendary treasure that gives the series its name.

The One Piece x Sanyo Shinkansen project began in 2025 as part of celebrations marking 50 years since the full Sanyo Shinkansen line opened, turning three bullet trains into moving tributes to the series and its characters.

Its first train, the Setouchi Blue, entered service on April 12, 2025, with a design inspired by a journey through the Setouchi region, covering the train in ocean-blue artwork featuring Luffy and other members of the Straw Hat crew.

That sea-inspired appearance now forms the basis of the One Piece Shinkansen Watch Setouchi Blue Model, with Seiko carrying several details from the train across to the dial rather than simply placing character artwork on a standard watch.

A blue gradient covers the watch face in reference to the Setouchi Blue’s exterior, while wave patterns inspired by the graphics running along the train appear around the chronograph sub-dials.

The Straw Hat Pirates’ Jolly Roger sits inside the small seconds display, while the 1 o’clock index incorporates Luffy’s straw hat for a smaller reference to the series’ protagonist.

Seiko has also worked the train itself into the functional parts of the watch, with luminous material applied to the hour and minute hands alongside details styled after the Shinkansen’s headlights, allowing them to glow in darker surroundings.

The chronograph seconds hand combines Luffy with an anchor motif, adding another nautical reference that connects the sea-going adventures of One Piece with the Setouchi theme behind the train.

A gold-colored marker at the 10 o’clock position represents the 50th anniversary of the Sanyo Shinkansen’s full opening, tying the watch back to the milestone that originally led to the One Piece train project.

The collaboration is limited to 5,000 watches, with the One Piece Shinkansen logo and an individual edition number engraved into the case back.

Each watch arrives inside a specially created collector’s box styled around the adventurous spirit of One Piece, with the collaboration logo stamped in gold across the lid.

Opening the box reveals the main artwork created for the One Piece x Sanyo Shinkansen project, and an illustrated warranty card is also included with each watch.

The One Piece Shinkansen Watch Setouchi Blue Model is priced at ¥76,780 (approx. $482 USD / £356 GBP) and is available to order now through the official Premico online store.
Orders are scheduled to begin shipping from mid-January 2027, with availability limited to the 5,000-piece production run.
