Official Evangelion Store releases 30th anniversary commemorative jacket

The official Evangelion Store is releasing an original “sukajan” to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Neon Genesis Evangelion broadcast.
First airing in 1995, the series was created by Hideaki Anno and produced by Studio Gainax, becoming one of the most influential anime series of the decade.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future where humanity is besieged by enigmatic beings known as Angels.
Its story follows a group of teenagers, including the reluctant protagonist Shinji Ikari, who are forced to pilot giant biomechanical cyborgs called Evangelions to defend the world.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was noted for its departure from typical giant-robot anime, delving into the deep psychological trauma of its young pilots and exploring complex philosophical and religious themes.
The series’ deconstruction of the mecha genre and its visually inventive direction left a lasting mark on animation and filmmaking worldwide.

Its influence continues through its dedicated global fanbase and the more recent Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy, which rebooted the story.
The sukajan, or souvenir jacket, is a style of outerwear that originated in post-World War II Japan, often featuring intricate embroidery and blending American baseball jacket aesthetics with Japanese motifs.

Similar jackets have been released by other anime series celebrating major anniversaries, including Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Wing.

This Evangelion jacket prominently features a large, embroidered 30th-anniversary emblem on its back.

The jacket’s design uses a black, red, and silver color scheme, reflecting the series’ often stark and urgent visual identity.

A smaller version of the anniversary emblem is also embroidered on the chest.

The lining of the jacket incorporates the recognizable “EMERGENCY” pattern, a visual cue taken directly from the hexagonal alert monitors seen within the NERV headquarters in the anime.

This piece of casual outerwear is designed to be suitable for everyday use while celebrating the franchise’s long history.

It will be available in medium, large, and extra-large sizes and is priced at 38,500 yen (approx. $263 USD / £193 GBP).
The jacket will be sold at the official online Evangelion Store, the Evangelion Store TOKYO-01, and the Hakone Yumoto Eva-ya store.

Pre-orders for the jacket began through the online Evangelion Store on June 27th.
The general release of the 30th-anniversary sukajan is scheduled for October 4th, 2025.
