Nintendo to Introduce Dual Pricing for Physical and Digital Switch 2 Games Starting May 2026

Nintendo has announced a significant shift in its retail strategy for the upcoming Switch 2 console, confirming that first-party titles will soon feature different price points for physical and digital versions.

Starting in May 2026 with the debut of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, digital editions of exclusive Switch 2 games will be priced at $59.99 while physical copies will retail for $69.99.

The company explained that this $10 price gap is a result of the varying costs associated with the production and distribution of physical cartridges compared to digital downloads.

A Nintendo representative later clarified to IGN that this move does not constitute a price hike for physical media, but rather a lower MSRP for consumers who choose to purchase directly from the digital storefront.

While Nintendo has set these specific MSRPs for its own published titles, the company noted that third-party retail partners maintain the autonomy to set their own pricing for both formats.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a side-scrolling platformer, will serve as the first title to implement this new pricing structure when it launches in May 2026.

This strategic change marks a departure from the traditional price parity that has defined Nintendo’s software releases across previous console generations.
