Nintendo announces delay to release of live-action Legend of Zelda film

Nintendo has announced a delay for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most iconic and enduring video game franchises, known for its expansive fantasy world of Hyrule, its puzzles, action, and the enduring heroism of Link, Princess Zelda, and their struggle against the evil Ganon.

The announcement of a live-action film adaptation, first revealed in November 2023, generated considerable excitement among fans of the decades-old series.
Shifting its premiere date from March 26th, 2027, to May 7th, 2027, the adjustment means the movie will now arrive in theaters a few weeks later than initially planned.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda series and a key figure at Nintendo, personally conveyed the news in a public statement.
“For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7th, 2027,” Miyamoto stated.

He further explained the decision, assuring fans, “It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”
This statement suggests the delay is intended to allow the production team more time to refine the film in post-production, aiming to ensure a high-quality cinematic experience that lives up to the expectations of a franchise with a storied history and dedicated fanbase.

The film is being co-financed and co-produced by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Wes Ball, known for directing the Maze Runner series, is attached to direct.
