Newtype Magazine Celebrates 40 Years With New Clothing Line
Popular apparel brand GEEKS RULE has revealed a brand new collaboration with the iconic anime magazine Newtype.
The upcoming “GEEKS RULE x Newtype” apparel line focuses on classic anime series from the 1990s.
Newtype is a legendary publication that has been covering the Japanese animation industry for decades.
The magazine recently celebrated its monumental 40th anniversary in 2025.
Throughout its extensive history, the publication has featured incredible cover artwork by some of the most talented creators in the medium.
GEEKS RULE is a brand dedicated to passing down the culture of anime, games, and movies to future generations through high-quality clothing.
The team specializes in recreating the aesthetic of 90s vintage shirts using traditional manufacturing methods.
This new partnership takes three historic cover illustrations from the magazine’s archives and brings them to life on wearable canvases.
The brand utilizes an advanced color separation technique and a 15-color silk-screen printing process to accurately reproduce the classic artwork.
Fans of classic 90s entertainment will recognize the beloved characters featured in this nostalgic clothing range.
- Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water T-Shirt
This shirt features the titular character Nadia, using the cover illustration from the May 1990 issue drawn by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto.
- Neon Genesis Evangelion T-Shirt
This design highlights Rei Ayanami, utilizing the beautiful cover artwork from the April 1997 issue illustrated by Takeshi Okazaki.
- Tokimeki Memorial Drama Series T-Shirt
This nostalgic piece features characters Shiori Fujisaki, Saki Nijino, and Ayako Katagiri from the July 1997 issue cover.
All three T-Shirts will be available in sizes M, L, XL, and XXL.
Pricing is currently unconfirmed, but based on previous collaborations, each item is expected to be around 12,100 yen (approx. $80 USD / £63 GBP).
Physical sales for the collaborative shirts will begin at the GR8 store in Tokyo’s Laforet Harajuku on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM JST.
An online lottery sale will also be held through the official GEEKS RULE online store for those unable to visit the physical store.
The lottery application period will run from Sunday, March 15, at 12:00 PM JST until Tuesday, March 17 at 12:00 PM JST.
Lottery results will be announced to applicants starting from 6:00 PM JST on March 17.
