New Ghost in the Shell collab watches are a tribute to the iconic Tachikoma tanks
The custom timepiece brand UNDONE has announced a new collaboration with the iconic anime series, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
UNDONE is known for their work in integrating pop culture icons, such as Hello Kitty and VTuber group hololive, into elegant high-end timepieces.
This new collaboration with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex will see the release of a trio of watches under the title of “The Tachikoma Units.”
The watches are a heartfelt tribute to the beloved, spider-like AI “think tanks” from the series.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is a critically acclaimed cyberpunk anime that is set in a futuristic Japan.
The series follows the missions of Public Security Section 9, an elite, counter-terrorist task force, as they navigate a world of cybernetic enhancements, political intrigue, and philosophical questions about the nature of consciousness.
The Tachikomas are the multi-legged, sentient combat vehicles used by Section 9.
Despite being machines, they are equipped with sophisticated, child-like AIs that are constantly learning and evolving, a trait that has made them some of the most beloved and memorable characters in the entire franchise
The collection features a single watch design that is available in three different colorways, one for each of the Blue, Yellow, and Grey Tachikoma chassis.
The design of the watch is filled with a number of clever and subtle details that are references to the classic cyberpunk anime.
The tri-compax dial is designed to mirror the Tachikomas’ iconic, three-lensed “Tri-Clops” sensors, and the hands are shaped like their antennas and mecha claws.
The dial is also semi-translucent, offering a glimpse into the inner mechanical workings of the watch.
A number of other, hidden details are also incorporated into the design.
The “Laughing Man” emblem is printed on the underside of the sapphire crystal, and a luminous Public Security Section 9 logo is placed at the 12 o’clock hour mark.
The glass caseback on the reverse of the watch is printed with a schematic of a Tachikoma.
The watch is powered by a Japanese TMI VK63 Mechanical-Quartz Hybrid Flyback Chronograph movement.
It features a 41.8mm stainless steel case with IP black plating and is water-resistant to 100 meters.
Each of the watches comes in an exclusive collector’s box set, which also includes a complimentary set of Laughing Man stickers.
This new collection offers a high-end and stylish way for fans to celebrate one of the most beloved and iconic mecha designs in all of anime.
Each of the three different “UNDONE x Ghost in the Shell: SAC – The Tachikoma Units” watches is priced at $320 USD (approx. ¥47000/£236 GBP).
